Lent Words

February 21, 2016 / Webmaster / Education

The term “lent” is an Anglo-Saxon word meaning “spring”.  Lent is a period of fasting and penitence traditionally lasting 40 days before Easter.  The number 40 is attached to historic events – the flood, Moses’ days on Mt. Sinai, the Israelites wandering in the wilderness, Jesus fasting and prayer in the wilderness before beginning his ministry.
